Richard Brendon Meets Patternity Bone China Collection

I am such a big fan of dark blue, it’s my absolute favourite colour and I love stripes so imagine how happy I was to discover the Richard Brendon Meets Patternity bone china collection by London-based designer Richard Brendon. ‘Warp’ and ‘Reason’ are the result of Richard Brendon’s collaboration with pattern visionaries Patternity and more than achieve their goal of warping the perception of what British bone china can look like. The collection has been hand-crafted in Stoke-on-Trent, England and draws inspiration from over two centuries of British culture. It combines Richard’s expertise in ceramic design and heritage with Patternity’s award-winning pattern exploration and innovation.

Richard, a British bone china specialist, believes “that to produce truly innovative products, a firm understanding of what has gone before is essential.” He is therefore constantly researching ceramic styles from the last 300 years and has developed a skill for identifying the best elements from the past and reinterpreting them in unexpected ways to create new and contemporary designs.

Patternity is an award-winning creative organisation specialising in the exploration and application of pattern. It was founded by art director Anna Murray and surface/textiles designer Grace Winteringham who share a desire to promote pattern awareness and innovation. Collaborations are fundamental to the Patternity design practice and they work closely with specialists in other fields to design patterns that draw attention to traditional skills, materials and manufacturing techniques.

Richard first collaborated with Patternity in early 2013 with the launch of his ‘Details from Willow’ range and has recently debuted his work in Paris at Maison&Objet. I have to say I am so very pleased that these two have joined forces to create this range. I can’t say I’ve ever really been a huge fan of bone china and I’ve always considered it to be, dare-I-say-it, somewhat old-fashioned. But this collection has really reinvigorated my perception of bone china and has brought it very much up to date. I can definitely add this to my lust list! I’d love to know what you guys think of this collection so you know the drill, leave me a comment or tweet me @StaceyJSheppard
