Giveaway : Win £250 worth of John Lewis Vouchers

ahi-perfect-home

Finally, January is done and dusted! I don’t know about you but I always find it such a long, hard month to get through. After all the festivities of Christmas and New Year have come to an end January just seems like such an anti-climax. The mornings are dark, the evenings are dark and the days are often cold and drizzly. It’s definitely not my favourite time of year. Added to that is the inevitable financial shortfall after December’s excesses, which means all household improvements have been put on the back burner.

But as February arrives I always start to feel more positive and have more energy. Spring no longer seems quite so far away and my thoughts once again turn to DIY and home improvements. I now feel ready to up tools and continue where I left off with all those projects I started before the festive period. Makeover time it is. And it can be for you too!

I’ve teamed up with Good To Be Home to offer one lucky reader the chance to win £250 worth of John Lewis vouchers. There are so many gorgeous home products available at John Lewis at the moment and I recommend that you check out the SS15 Trends for some lovely new products that will help give your home a fresh new look for Spring. Below are some of my favourite products from the new Fusion collection.

Entry is easy and you simply need to leave a blog comment below stating what design how-to you would be most interested to read. For example perhaps you’d like to know how to make a dark room seem brighter and more airy, or maybe you’d be interested to know how to make the most of the space in a small kitchen. You get the idea, right? You can also earn extra entries via the various social media options. The winner will be selected at random after the closing date.

I moved into an absolute wreck of a house that needed total redecoration in every room & every single window needed sanding down and re-painting. The rooms were painted things like dark blue walls and black gloss on windows, doors, radiator, coving, skirtings etc. Or hot pink and red gloss on everything, another room had dark blue gloss and there was even yellow gloss in places. Also it is a town house over 3 floors and the hall, stairs and landings all the way up were painted in a vile shade of orangey-brown that took me 6 coats of white to cover it up completely! We later found that the place had damp problems too. I finally completed everything and the living room has been refreshed twice since, it but 6 years on this Spring and Summer, the whole place needs redecorating all over again and I feel so daunted as it was such a lot of work the first time round! I also have 3 more children, than I had when I moved in!

I am currently decorating my whole house. My daughter’s ‘Frozen’ themed bedroom will be competed shortly, then it’s the living room next. I like to take control with general decorating but anything more I usually let my husband take care of – he is a full-time builder after all! Although, I once fitted new internal doors throughout our house all by myself!

We have recently changed our kitchen. The cupboards are white, so we had all the possibilities and went for a deep berry colour for the walls. We changed all the silver knobs and handles to black powder coated ones to give it a little rustic touch. I would love to re-design it with some more “manly” wallpaper preferably plain with a basic design and some wooden flooring. I would also put plenty of shelves up for him and get him a bed as the poor man is sleeping on a mattress on the floor. I used a pair of curtains from ebay to brighten up and transform a bathroom. I cut each curtain in 2 and used 1 set for the window and a matching set to cover a cupboard in the alcove that didn’t have doors. I cut out bits of the pattern from the offcuts to decorate around the edges of a nasty plastic clock! Quite pleased with the results.

  405. We are just in the process of re-doing our shower/utility room. With 5 adults in the house it gets heavy use + the difficulty and restrictions with the wash/tumble dryer in such a small space makes it quite a challenge. Want it sleek and stylish but in a traditional way so we probably go with Whites and neutrel beiges/creams as the room has very little natural light

  410. We’re currently trying to decide whether to turn our lounge (which is underused due to a new and cosy conservatory) into a formal dining room. We want to still have some comfy chairs in there too so we’re not sure if that make it a little of lots of this and not all of one thing – if you know what I mean? Also wondering if a woodburning stove is worthwhile when there’s a dining table blocking the sight line but feel it would make the room feel welcoming. So, advice on dining rooms in homes that have families visiting and when it’s ok not to have a formal “lounge”

Before I even came across the term “upcycling”, I decided to try and transform some picture frames and dining chairs that my parents had offered me. I’m usually more mentally than physically created, so I was really pleased with how everything turned out :) I replaced the awful dining chair covers (which were greyish-cream) with some fresh blue fabric, thanks to some help from Google and an awesome staple gun. Similarly, the old-fashioned gold gilt-style picture frames were resprayed with a bright, modern paint, which are almost worthy of appearing in the Next catalogue lol. I just love the satisfaction you get from doing little projects like this yourself :)
